2020 iPhones Expected To Use Qualcomm’s Latest X55 5G Modem

Apple is planning to use latest and the fastest 5G modem from Qualcomm in its upcoming 2020 line of iPhones: report.

A recent report from the Nikkei Asian Review claims that the three iPhones that will be released next year are going to feature 5G Qualcomm chip that is named X55. The chips in the new iPhones – the 5.4”, 6.1”, and 6.7” models – will be superfast.

“All three of the new iPhones will carry the most advanced 5G modem chip, known as X55 that is designed by US mobile chip developer Qualcomm, four people familiar with the plan told Nikkei. The chip, which enables much faster downloads, faces such an increase in demand that there could be supply constraints, one person added.”

If this report is to be believed, Apple is all set to get best to its 2020 iPhones. The new X55 chip has the capacity to transfer at speeds up to 7GBps download and 3GBps upload, and that’s fairly quick. Remember, however, that these are the lab numbers and one can’t expect that kind of speeds when downloading the app updates in the local neighborhood.

Probably, the fact that Apple would be interested in the most right now is that this new chip would be much more power-efficient compared to its previous model. Apple has managed to extend its 2019 iPhones’ battery life in comparison to the models released back in 2018. So, it would never want to bring in something that nullifies the hard work they have put in over the years.
